VeraSun to Delay Ethanol Plant Openings
Posted 19 June 2008
The VeraSun Energy Corporation, based in Brookings, South Dakota, has announced it will delay the opening of two new ethanol plants - one inVera Sun Minnesota and the other in Iowa.

VeraSun says the delay is prompted by market conditions, including the purchase price of corn and the selling price of ethanol.

The plant in Welcome, Minn., was scheduled to go online this month, but will be delayed until market conditions improve. The same goes for the company's plant in Hartley, Iowa.

VeraSun began construction on the Welcome and Hartley plants in November 2006 after several years of planning.

VeraSun also has a plant under construction in Dyersville. Work on the local facility also began in November 2006 and is scheduled to meet a Q3 2008 start-up target. The ethanol biorefinery was designed to be among the most environmentally-friendly in the industry. This is VeraSun's seventh greenfield facility, and it will have the capacity to produce 110 million gallons of ethanol per year.

The Dyersville plant, like VeraSun's other facilities, will utilize a dry-grind method of production and state-of-the-art technology to maintain industry-leading standards in production, safety and product quality.
